ADB975493

ADB975493 started out life as Mk1 BSK 34740, built in 1955 at BR's own Wolverton works. The coach lead an ordinary life until converted into a re-railing equipment generator van, where various modifications were made including a change in bodyside (there are no windows at all) and being renumbered ADB975493. Access is by four large sliding doors (the recesses in the picture) and after a period in an earlier red colour the vehicle was painted Departmental yellow. It then ran out the last of it's days as part of a re-railing train alongside similar vans and a crane from Tyseley TMD until being withdrawn by BR. Now the BRCW Group own it and is stored out of use, its generator still remains and has been started up at least 3 times in 1998/1999 to power the internal lights (it's very dark inside!) but flat batteries stopped play. The future for this vehicle is currently secure but restoration work is low-priority as it is obviously not a vehicle that particularly enhances the public's visit to the railway.
